Bedroom was charming, clean and vintage South Africa. Hotel was like going back to the good old days as was the rest of the town. This is the oldest pub in SA, so it lives up to that expectation.
Only downside was the bathroom which could do with a revamp, but it was servicable and clean.
Booked this hotel 3 days prior to arrival, mainly due to good reports on tripadvisor. On arrival after 7 hour drive could not locate any person at reception after 5 minute wait.
decided to take a look around this property while awaiting staff member.Initial impression that 4 stars and 1600 Rand per room per night was high as, in my view the...
This place has a good location near the inner-city of Cape Town and is reasonably priced. However, the atmosphere is unwelcoming and the owners were extremely unfriendly and rude to us. It is also cold in the winter.
The staff were great and very helpful, but the rooms are terribly small with no air conditioning, which is horrible during the summer!
We booked Tarragona after researching about 7 B and B's in Hout Bay where we were attending a wedding. We needed a place for 2 nights and I wanted a little bit of luxury away from home. Our room was absolutely freezing (there was no heating), the shower door didn't close properly and took forever to get hot water, the...
This hotel is really geared up for conferences rather than tourists and although the rooms are comfortable the surroundings are very much a work in progress, in fact drilling was going on in the evening we were there. The hotel website does not much advertise the restaurant and it's easy to understand why. An unappetising buffet with only chops or...
After reading all the reviews, me and my wife couldn't wait to spend 4 nights in this B&B! Our first impressions upon arrival were good: a nice spacious room with a comfortable bed and beautiful view. However in the following days our initial positive impression was tempered by a few events all concerning the service (not the room or place...
We booked 3 nights at Castlehill, and ended up leaving after one because we were disappointed with some aspects:
1. Traffic noise: the main road is currently under construction, so traffic is being diverted through the village right onto Gatesville Road. There's a constant rumble of vehicles going by, exacerbated by the cobbled road and speedbumps. If you have a...
We stayed for one night whilst en route to Kynsna. Whilst we were warmly greated and were looking forward to having some tapas for lunch as suggested in a previous e-mail we were told that the chef had not yet arrived and were directed to the town to eat. Not what we expected of a 5 star establishment. Invited to...
My fiancé and I stayed here over the Easter weekend. It's hard to say anything bad about the service and understanding of Leigh (the manager he was fantastic.
I realise you cannot compare a unique, "one of a kind" boutique hotel to a larger hotel chain. But when it comes to grading and "5 star" grading I would say this...
At the outset, this review is about the actual layout and logistics of this hotel and not the staff as they were all wonderful, friendly and helpful.
In my opinion This is not a boutique hotel, it is more a large guest house. Entrance into the property is awkward, you have to leave your vehicle in the road to press...
We stayed here on our 2nd week in Capetown. Like one review said, great place but shame on location. Unless you have a car, definitely a great place to be at. Not much to do around the city its in. We were suppose to get the Zebra room, but was given the Green room for our honeymoon stay. Now it's...
Cascades on the Promenade is a guest house situated between Main and Beach Roads in Sea Point. They have a restaurant which is open to the public. My first experience there was when I went with a friend for a cuppacino and croissant which we both had. I asked for a glass of water and ice and they refused point...
We stayed here on a brief stopover in Swellendam whilst driving through the winelands. I decided to pick Swellendam as from the guidebooks it was dubbed "charming" and worth a visit. i therefore selected Roosle Van de Kaap as it had a good price over other places in the the town and we weren't looking for lots of frills.
Everything...
We stayed 5 nights in the main house in the family room with the lounge. For what it was the price was very high but I suspect that this was hiked up for the World Cup. Room was clean and comfortable but fairly basic. Strangley the TV was in the bedroom and no TV in the lounge, but we managed....
We booked into the Ikhaya Lodge for four nights but ended up only staying for one. On the face of it it is a nice hotel, the staff are friendly and the rooms are fine. However, when we arrived back at our room on our first night at around 1am we found that we could hear EVERYTHING that was going...
I only have one advice, don't go there.
We arranged a shuttle from the airport to the hotel, but they did not show up.
On arrival by taxi, they tried to let is pay again, everything was prepaid already, and the roomrate was much much higher than agreed.
Very disappointing service. We had to leave tot search for another hotel...
We recently spent 2 nights here as part of a short trip from Cape Town. The rooms were decent but a few small niggles irked me and tarnished our stay. The owners are lovely and friendly but far too keen to push you into having dinner at their establishment -which is a B and B rather than a restaurant- R225...
