My hotel reviews are based primarily on value received. Else, it is impossible to comapre a Ritz wirth a Savoy with a Taj with a Holiday Inn with a Motel 6. Hotels and taxis in South Africa are surprisingly expensive for a country that has 20% unemployment and extreme poverty. Hence the value quotient would have to be very high...
Upon arriving at this castle-like accommodation in Johannesburg, we were shown our room and the breakfast room and then left on our own to explore the hotel. We discovered a pool, caged exotic birds, a balcony/smoking room and that our hotel was attached to a private residence. Needless to say, it would have been much more welcoming to have had...
What a dive. We arrived at the hotel around 10pm, and i was told they had no non-smoking rooms available (this is specified on my reservation). Eventualy i was given a non smoking room, that according to the reception, had been cleaned and was ready for guests. The desk in the room was so dirty, I could not put my...
I live in Johannesburg and booked a room at The Parkwood for a visiting colleague for a week at the end of April. The location - round the corner from my house - was my primary consideration, but this venue looked like something special.
Since I live so close, I thought I would pop past to check it out first...
OK - I usually don't review without having stayed somewhere, but thought this is worth sharing, especially for families. This lodge does not have baby beds/cots and as such is not suitable for families with babies or toddlers requiring a cot or baby bed.
My company put me up in this excuse of an hotel for two weeks. During this time I have experienced one of the worst stays of my life.
Rooms are old, showercurtains dirty. Floors sticky. Only one plug per room
The outside area closes at 8 so don't expect to be able to have a meal or drink outside.
Reception...
I feel like I must have stayed at a different hotel than what my fellow reviewers have reported! One of the downsides of booking with a tour is that you don’t know what kind of hotel you’ll get until you get it. After spending a week at a fabulous hotel with high-quality food and spectacular service in Cape Town, I...
If you like weird room design (as I see some of the reviewers do) where the shower and handbasin are actually in the bedroom and not in a separate one, then this is definitely for you. If you like badly lighted lifts that feel like a morgue then this place is definitely for you. If you like being swamped by...
Our whole stay - from booking to checking out - was truly memorable. For an establishment with only one year's experience, The Residence is doing a superb job. Both dinner and breakfast were excellent, and we prefer this small menu (executed brilliantly) to any larger hotel's often extensive menus. Great wine list, good range. I agree with another reviewer's comment:...
